...which means just 3 and 1/2 weeks of school to go... hallelujah!
2. Dan Meyer's "math curriculum makeover" on Ted talks.
this talk might only be of interest to those of us nerds in education... but Dan is funny & he equates current math instruction with watching the predictable, laugh-tracked sitcom Two & a Half Men (worst show on tv) which I think is hilarious. What do I like most about Dan Meyer? He works with remedial math students, so he's not just touting some highfalutin overly theoretical approach to math instruction that usually leaves low-achieving students, who need to master basic skills, out in the cold. Instead, he is concerned with helping remedial students to join the math conversation and use their intuition to initiate, and he levels the playing field in a way that invites them to do so.
2. Saying sayonara to those extra pounds, sugar cravings & "toxins" via a spring detox.
21 days of restricted eats, mindfulness & a whole lot of tea-drinking... should be worth it in the end!
3. hint water
It's silly to buy bottled water on so many levels. The hubs likes to remind me on almost a daily basis that bottled water is 1) a rip-off and 2) wasteful. (he's right of course, but I occasionally like to retort, "but what if you get a flat tire in the middle of the desert and you have to walk miles to find gas and you're dying of thirst when you finally get there and your choice is water from the bathroom faucet or a refreshing, ice-cold bottle of Fiji water?? C'mon honey, WWJD?"). He loves when I do this. But really, for the most part I agree with him.
Except for when it comes to hint water. hint is so great because it doesn't have added sugar... just the 'essence' of the fruit, which makes it oh so satisfying & fun when compared to boring-shmoring water. Favorite flavors thus far: pear & pomegranate-tangerine.
4. Grilled Hawaiian Ahi Tuna with Slaw @ Pike Street Fish Fry

5. Neighborly Love
Last week we traveled up north to the bustling metropolis of Everett with our neighbors, Nick & Sherira, to catch the National Indoor Lacrosse championship game. The game was awesome and I was reminded how lucky D & I are to have such hilarious, awesome, and fun friends as neighbors. Those Scasseros are the bees knees! It got me excited for summer festivities in the common courtyard that we've got brewing!
Don't these two just look like a hoot?
6. A Hot Bath, a Good Book and a Cup of Tea.
Salt baths have been one detox addition to my life that I am embracing and leave me longing for this dreamy bathroom:

7. A juicy Bison burger served over greens
Why Bison? Why not? Nutritionally, Bison gives you more protein and nutrients with fewer calories & fat. Buffalo is also high in iron for women! It tastes similar to beef but with a slightly sweeter, richer flavor (yum!). Plus, most Bison is grass fed, which is a major bonus in my book. Remember- you are eating what your meat ate too! Just remember not to overcook it!
Here is a link to find local bison:
8. Tom's shoes
I know, I'm waaaaayyy behind with the Tom's shoes craze. In fact, I would probably fall in the 'bandwagon' category here. But I'm ok with that... because I just got my Tom's a few weeks ago and they are already changing my life! They might have even ruined me for all other shoes. Guess what everyone is getting for Christmas??
My happy Tom's feet:
In case you have been hiding under a rock & don't know the charitable story behind Tom's, check it out:
aaaaaand... they're coming out with wedges for summer. (!!!!) I'm about to get my preorder on.

9. Making your very own treasuries on etsy.com
uh oh, yet another tool to suck me into etsy.com.
curses!
here's some of the fun I've been having:
10. The Bachelorette premieres on Monday!
I can already hear the hubby groaning... but sorry folks, this is one tv indulgence I'm not willing to forfeit. While Ali is not nearly as cool as Jillian, I'm already hooked! Last night I was painfully laughing at the forecasted terribleness of this show as revealed in the sneak peaks and just had to share...
Scene opens with Ali saying, "I'm so shocked at how many great guys are here... so far they've been better than I could ever imagine!" Followed by a bachelor nick-named 'Shooter' who wants to reveal how he got his nickname (I could not make this up)... He confesses, "I might have like... prematurely... accidentally in college... so that's maybe how..." WTF dude.
This winner was followed by a dude on crutches who rips open his shirt to reveal his alter-ego: he is a semi-pro wrestler named... wait for it... Rated-R!! And talks like Christian Bale in the Dark Knight. Look out guys, he might have to "get a little Rated-R on you!" barf.
To all the fellas out there: feel free to invite the hubby out for beers on Monday nights. He will not refuse. :)

Yes!!! #10!!! Bring on the drama!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHere is the nerdiest thing I'll admit publicly....sometimes if I'm having trouble falling asleep, I pull out my smartphone and watch TED talks on their android app. Really, its astounding I'm single. What woman wouldn't want to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of a lecture about the end of oil pouring out of a tinny little speaker. Next one will be the math curriculum on for sure.
ReplyDeleteAlso, because its grass fed, bison has a healthier and more natural ratio of omega 3s to omega 6s so its basically like eating salmon, except that its a fat, juicy burger.
One more thing, be careful with Toms and running. When I got my pair I wore them almost exclusively and started getting some funky pain in my calf. I stopped wearing them and it went away. I think maybe I should have just eased my way in to wearing a supportless shoe. I'm going to a barefoot running seminar thursday and hope to glean some more info then.
ReplyDeleteOoh!! Please share the info. from your seminar!! And one of the things I find most sexy about Danny is his nerdy love of Ted talks... just sayin'...
